My gas tank finally rusted through and is leaking now.
Are there any replacement gas tanks that will work on my '38 Packard 1600 touring sedan?

*No. Rumors of reproduction tanks are false. Once upon a time someone whispered 69 or 70 El Camino as sized similar, but obviously not "replacement". Gas Tank ReNu may be your best option, short of finding a good used tank. Good luck on that...

You might want to consider having the tank repaired. When I pulled the tank from my '37 it contained 8 gallons of 15 year old gas and 3 pounds of rust and no drain (plugged). After not being able to find a replacement tank I had the tank cleaned (steam & chemically cleaned), three pin hole leaks on top of tank and leaks in the fill neck sandblasted and flux/solder repaired, and tank inside polymer coated/sealed. Also had top of tank coated on the outside to strengthen and protect the tank - had drain installed and pressure tested. Cost was about $400.

This seems the best option. My friend got this El Camino project and the gas tank has a minor dent and leak. We'll check it out after we finished installing the set of tires from 4Wheelonline on the truck tomorrow.
