Wheel cylinders 49 packard

Post by strattr14 » Tue May 24, 2011 6:21 am

Where can I find wheel cylinders and brake shoes for a 1949 club sedan deluxe 8 that are reasonable?

One thing that's not a problem is finding brake parts for these cars. I don't know what your idea of "reasonable cost" is, but you can get wheel cylinders and new shoes for many models from Kanter Bros., and probably from Max Merritt. NAPA also has relined shoes and wheel cylinders available for some models. New wheel cylinders show up on eBay all the time. Of course wheel cylinders often don't need replacing but just rebuilding. And most larger towns and cities will have a good brake shop (not like Midas) that can reline you old shoes, though of course with non-asbestor lining which may be bonded and not riveted like the originals. So there are just lots of possibilities for you to go price-shopping.

I believe I can supply you with the original Wagner-Lockheed part numbers for the wheel cylinders if you can provide the vehicle number or chassis type.

Thank you Dave, I have been talking to my local NAPA dealer. I have a 2365 Club Sedan. The brake shoes are looking to be a problem to find at NAPA. If you can supply me with some numbers of the parts, maybe I can find the parts at NAPA.

I can't lay my hands on my Raybestos catalog with the shoe/lining part numbers at the moment, but I did check with Kanter Bros. for you. New shoes with lining are available for your 2301 at $69 per axle (4 shoes, both front or both rear wheels).

The original Wagner-Lockheed wheel cylinder part numbers are as follows:

Front left FD2754
Front right FD2755

Rear left FD2863
Rear right FD 2864

Dave

Do you by any chance have a part number for the master cylinder too?

Thanks

I did find the wheel cylinders at NAPA for a total of 47 dollars and the brake shoes at NAPA were a total of 44 dollars for the front and rear axles. Thanks for your help.

How about giving us the NAPA part numbers for future reference by other readers?

Hello all. I know this is an older post, but I require some brake info. Could some one tell me the bore size of the front and rear wheel cylinders?

Thanks for your help.

Just read the above posts....part numbers would be awesome! :D

Re wheel cylinder bore sizes; I assume you're asking about a 1949, I don't recall offhand if both Series (22nd and 23rd) and all models are the same but it would be nice beforehand to know what chassis (Eight, Super Eight, Custom?) and if it's a 22nd Series or a 23rd Series and body type?
