I just ordered a Fuel Pump (#508) for my 38 Packard 1600. When applying the gasket, should I use Gasket Sealer? Both sides? Suggested brand? I've received contradictory advice from local mechanics. Thanks as always.
If the surfaces of the engine block and pump flange are smooth and clean, use of a gasket sealer is strictly optional and quite unnecessary. If you decide to use one, simple old gasket shellac is a good choice. DO NOT use silicone!
