"Deluxe Equipment" refers to sidemounted fenders and associated hardware, heavier front springs, one extra tire, rim and hubcap, and rear trunk rack. It did not include sidemount covers or mirrors. At least that's been my understanding of that option. I've never seen anything about woodgrain options, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist.

SO there were 2 diff wood grains used on 33 and 34 ELM BURL & BUTT WALNUT. Seems the majority being EB and BW being the minority. Don's 1100 has BW and it is not called out on his PACKARD Factory Invoice. Thinking my idea that it was an option is wrong.

The mystery continues - HOW/WHY DID SOME PACKARDs GET EB AND OTHERS BW ?

One of the interesting thing that came with my 34 was an optional "Handy Kit" of "Approved" car maintenance items. While not complete, mine has original tins of body polish, chrome polish, and tar remover in the original box. It also included fabric cleaner, a lamp bulb kit and a polishing cloth which are long gone. The tins are still full, I wonder what interesting toxic brews they contain?

I found another 34 accessory hiding in the Handy kit. The car has a heavy pot metal locking gas cap which still works and what I found is the original box for it - and inside that is the original gas cap! While not shown in the Accessory list the box indicates the locking cap was a Packard part. From the condition of the leather seal on the original cap it looks like it was hardly used, the locking cap must have been bought with the car or soon thereafter.

I've been under the car cleaning the spring shackles, I noticed that the undercarriage is painted Packard Blue to match the car. This photo shows a bit of the paint plus the original metal spring gaiters which are still on the car, notice the part number.

See blue on the fender to frame hardware?

I took down my sidemount spare for the first time and removed the wheel lock, I assume this is Oakes? Here are a few photos

Don, thanks for the new pictures. There is another picture of the Oakes lock on page 2 of this thread, and the sidemount mirror lock on page 3.

PS - the mirrors should be mounted with the lock on the inside (toward the car body), not outside. And on your first picture of that last post, the Oakes lock is incorrectly mounted - before tightenting it should have been rotated so the two "ears" cover the retaining lug bolts.

Thanks Dave. I did not know about the lock location on the mirror. I did know about the wheel lock - for some reason the previous owner had unlocked it and rotated the cover plate as shown. Maybe he forgot - that's how stuff gets stolen!
