I'm trying to help a new Packard owner. He just got a 37 Packard Super 8. The car overheated rather quickly. I quickly figured out, not only was the butterfly valve stuck but, the previous owner hit it trying to loosen it up and broke the weight off. Now he needs the whole manifold heat control valve assembly.

I believe Max Merritt offers a manifold heat riser valve kit though I don't recall if it includes the arm and counterweight but if not, easy enough to make that part. Or, If you're willing to suffer a longer than usual warm-up period, the car can perform just fine with the valve either missing, or permanently fixed in the open position (except in extremely cold climates).
