In the early postwar years, car manufacturers raced to bring something new and innovative to the market. Henney had just brought in Richard Arbib as their stylist and together they created the Monte Carlo concept as a halo car that might help promote Packard sales and bring renewed interest in the last years of the 48-50 Packard Body Design. One mock-up was built along with another full drivable car – a convertible. The Packard Monte Carlo convertible was thought lost for years but was uncovered originally in 1988 by Peter Krell. Most recently it was acquired by Geoff Hacker of Undiscovered Classics, and working with several Packard historians began to piece together the history of this car and the times that helped create it. Join us on Friday July 24th for a talk by Geoff Hacker, owner and historian of the Packard Monte Carlo, where the history of the car will be shared and the birth of postwar concept and show cars will be discussed.

Join us for the 3rd Annual Orphan Car Show on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the historic Pierce-Arrow Museum at the Gilmore Car Museum campus.

After two fantastic years of showcasing orphan cars, this event has quickly become a favorite among enthusiasts and families alike—and 2026 promises to be the best yet!From 10am to awards at 2pm, enjoy a day of fabulous orphan automobiles, friendly competition, and great camaraderie, with awards including Chairman’s Choice and People’s Choice—and $250 in prize cash up for grabs this year! The show continues to feature both Pre-War and Post-War orphan cars (through 1975), bringing together a truly unique and diverse field.

But it’s more than just a car show—it’s a family-friendly experience! Take in the beauty of the entire Gilmore campus, enjoy vintage car rides around the grounds, great food, and plenty of fun for all ages. With multiple museums, scenic spaces, and activities throughout the day, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
